MHBA COMMITTEES

While the Board of Directors undertakes the overall management of the Manitoba Home Builders’ Association, the various programs, projects and initatives presented over the years are as a result of the work of several committees consisting of Board members and dedicated industry volunteers. Below are MHBA’s current committees.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING COMMITTEE

The Education and Training Committee identifies and develops training options for MHBA members in order to further raise the level of professionalism and provide continuing education opportunities. The committee helps identify pertinent industry topics for MHBA’s Breakfast Seminars and its Housing Forum event.

RENOVATION COUNCIL

The Renovation Council continues to address issues and identify the professional interests of MHBA’s renovator members. The industry remains extremely busy with Manitoba’s consumer demands and intent to renovate among the highest in Canada. MHBA’s Renovation Council members are also involved in the Winnipeg Renovation Show and Winnipeg Home + Garden Show providing free consultations at the MHBA booth.

MEMBERSHIP AND MARKETING COMMITTEE

The role of the Membership and Marketing Committee is to recruit and onboard new members, and to provide feedback and assistance in membership recruitment, engagement and retention initiatives for the Association. The Committee discusses current events relevant to the industry, and continues to look for ways to promote the Association and its members.

WORKPLACE SAFETY AND HEALTH COMMITTEE

The Workplace Safety and Health Committee continues to ensure that the residential construction industry remains up to date with Workplace Safety and Health best practices and regulations. Through collaboration with the provincial government department and the Construction Safety Association of Manitoba (CSAM), MHBA members are at the forefront of creating a safe work environment. WSH Committee endeavours to keep members apprised of legislative changes and contributes to suggestions for improvements to the Act.

PARADE OF HOMES COMMITTEE

The Parade of Homes Committee is tasked with the decisioning making that goes into planning the largest Parade of Homes in Canada. The committee continues to identify innovative ways to improve the event’s: marketing and promotions, entry process, judging process, gala etc.

TECHNICAL RESEARCH COMMITTEE

The Technical Research Committee continues to examine any technical matter relating to the industry and to improve the levels of communication with departments responsible for zoning, plan examination, permits, inspections and other services important to the industry. The Committee meets frequently with the Planning Property and Development Department of the City of Winnipeg, Manitoba Hydro, and the Office of the Fire Commissioner to find solutions to issues pertinent to the residential construction industry.

GOVERNMENT LIAISON COMMITTEE

The Government Liaison Committee is tasked with providing strategic support on government relations and meeting on a regular basis with elected officials, both provincial and municipal to ensure that the position of the MHBA members is heard and understood. The Committee has called upon the expertise of various members when visiting selected politicians concerning specific issues.

In addition, the MHBA works closely with the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) on federal items of concern. MHBA representatives meet with Member of Parliament in Manitoba to discuss the current state of the industry, the pros and cons of recent legislation and recommendations for future legislation.
