2024 Year In Review

The mission statement at the Manitoba Home Builders’ Association is to be the voice of the residential construction industry in Manitoba; to provide a forum for the ongoing education of the membership with respect to technology and business practices; to achieve an environment in which the membership can operate successfully; and to promote affordability and choice in housing for all Manitobans. Our team at the MHBA strives to meet that mission on behalf of our members, the customers they serve, and the communities they help build.

In 2024, the MHBA:

 

  • Participated in over 120 formal meetings with government (local, provincial & federal), external stakeholders (Manitoba Hydro, Winnipeg Metro Region, etc.) and other partners;
  • Participated in numerous government consultations on land use planning, code adoption, regional planning, Winnipeg’s development agreement parameters, infill construction, transit and transportation master plans, municipal governance, energy sustainability, waste reduction, and numerous other government initiatives;
  • Provided management services to UDI Manitoba, guiding and coordinating efforts for both industry associations;
  • Hosted over 95 MHBA Board, Committee UDI Manitoba Board and Committee meetings, and working group meetings throughout the year, guiding MHBA and UDI activities;
  • Continued to provide professional development opportunities such as the Master Builder/Renovator program, new home sales agent course, technical sessions and a full Housing Forum program;
  • Met regularly with City of Winnipeg’s PP&D officials to monitor permit and inspection activity in order to address the needs of the residential construction industry;
  • Provided members with the latest information via the MHBA’s website, electronic updates, and our e-newsletter;
  • Met with Provincial government officials frequently to discuss the implementation of important legislation impacting our sector regarding regional land planning, appeals, inspections, and Manitoba building and electrical codes; and
  • Met frequently with Provincial cabinet ministers, municipal politicians, and other stakeholder partners to provide frequent updates on the state of Manitoba’s residential construction industry and address industry issues.
