How long have you been a MHBA member & what type of membership?
We have been a builder member for just over 3 years.
Why did you decide to join the MHBA?
To be a part of a group of like-minded individuals, to network, collaborate, and educate on all things in the construction industry.
The MHBA acts as a voice for us and many other businesses in the residential construction industry in Manitoba. We are huge supporters of investing and elevating our team in every way we can, so the support from MHBA in providing a forum for ongoing education for its members, has been very beneficial to us that way.
What is your favourite MHBA event?
Since many events are in Winnipeg, and we are in Brandon, we haven’t attended as many as we would have liked to. This year we have attended the Wpg Renovation Show and will be attending the CHBA National Conference this month. We enjoy the Renovation and the Home & Garden shows as we get to meet and collaborate with others in our industry.
How has being an MHBA benefited your business?
By acting as a liaison to us with the rest of the construction industry.
Provides the opportunities for us to be recognized nationally.
It keeps us up to date on provincial news.
What is your favourite project that your company has done?
Our favourite project was a custom cottage on Lake Metigoshe where it was built using Timbers and tons of windows. The cottage was built on a steep hill, so it provided some challenges that we overcame and learned from. The design was one of a kind, the clients were amazing, and we developed a great relationship with them since day one of that project.
What advice would you give to a business just starting out in your industry?
Don’t try and reinvent the wheel. Reach out to organizations such as the MHBA, they want you to succeed and will help provide the right tools for you to do so. Invest in your team: Educate them and elevate them. We can’t stress this enough, but customer service is number one. Build those relationships!
Anything else you would like to share about your company?
Alair is about changing the lives of our Clients, Partners, Trade Partners, and Employees by focusing on the human experience, not the product or services. The end result will be an exceptional business, a custom home or renovation project, but far more importantly, a life-changing experience. At the heart of our vision is the belief that we are in the human life improvement business, not construction. This is ‘why’ we are in business. We operate from the viewpoint that our greatest competitive advantage rests within the personal relationships formed between everyone.
